Two or three Timur seeds and a small clove of garlic are chewed for indigestion. A paste of the seeds is kept between the teeth for 10 minutes to relieve toothache. Crushed seeds are boiled in water and taken for fever and cough. Seeds are roasted in clarified butter taken for stomach troubles.

Timur (Zanthoxylum armatum) is a common plant of sub-tropical and temperate regions of Nepal, distributed within 1100m to 2500m. It is a shrub or small tree often reaching up to 5m in height, with corky bark and long straight spines on braches and leaf-stalks. Leaves opposite, pinnately compound; flowers green or yellow colored; fruits globular, red, wrinkled, aromatic; seeds shining black with an aromatic husk which becomes red on maturity. Flowers in occurs in April-May and fruiting on July November. Mid-Western districts like Rolpa, Rukum, Salyan, Pyuthan, Dang, Surkhet, Gulmi, Baglung and Jajarkot are the reservoir of Timur and commercial farming has started in these districts.
