In Nepali old stories, Lākhey is regarded as a devil or demon god. He is portrayed with a ferocious face, jutting teeth and a mane of red or black hair. Lakheys figure prominently in traditional Newar culture of Nepal Mandala. The Lakhey tradition is found in the Kathmandu Valley and other Newar settlements throughout Nepal. Lakheys are said to be demons who used to live in the forests and later became protectors to the townspeople. Our “Wooden Lakhey Mask” is the mask of Lakhey made up of finest wood.
